What’s on the agenda today?

Hellooo {{First Name| there}},

You've probably been hearing a lot about the Four Labour Codes lately. And yes, they will be live from tomorrow. We're not going to sugarcoat it: there's real work to do.

Payroll structures, employment contracts, HR systems, compliance calendars. A lot needs a fresh look. But the good news? You don't have to make sense of it all on your own.

Here's what's actually changing at a glance:

  • 💰 Wages are redefined — the new "50% rule" means many existing salary structures need to be reviewed

  • 📄 29 old laws → 4 Codes — simpler on paper, but the shift requires active updating

  • 🗂️ PF & gratuity calculations may shift — which directly affects take-home pay

  • 🖥️ HR systems need an upgrade — your tools need to reflect the new framework

We've put together a few resources to help you get there. Read what's useful, skip what's not, and reach out if you have questions.

💸 Labour Codes & Shrinking Take-Home

Your employees' take-home is about to shrink. Same CTC. Just... restructured. The new labour codes mean 8–10% less in hand — ₹5–6K gone every month for someone on ₹60K.

You can't change the law. But you can give employees something that puts real money back — without touching your comp budget.

SalarySe does exactly that. Up to 37.5% UPI rewards, 200+ brand deals, salary advance mid-cycle. Add it up — it's close to one extra month's salary, back in their pocket.

In This Edition We Cover

  • Our Internal FAQ Doc: the basics of the Four Labour Codes, simplified

  • The Official Government Handbook: straight from Compliance Ministry of Labour & Employment

  • The Legal Deep-Dive: a practical guide by Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas

  • TSOW Support & April Meetups: ask questions, join the conversation

1️⃣ Start Here — Our Internal FAQ Doc

Not sure where to begin? This one's for you.

We've built an internal FAQ that breaks down the Four Labour Codes in plain language — no legal jargon, no information overload.

It answers things like:

  • What actually changed, and when?

  • Does this affect my team's contracts?

  • What does the 50% wage rule mean in practice?

  • Do I need to do anything right now?

Whether you're new to this or just need a quick refresher, this is the best place to start.

2️⃣ The Official Government Handbook

Straight from the Ministry of Labour & Employment — and actually quite readable.

The government published a Compliance Handbook for Employers that walks through each of the Four Codes in plain chapters. A few things worth knowing:

  • Covers all four codes: Wages, Industrial Relations, Occupational Safety, and Social Security

  • Ends with a handy summary of action points for employers

  • The admin burden is genuinely lighter now — 31 separate returns are now just one electronic return

It's a reference doc, not a legal opinion — but it's the clearest official guide out there.

3️⃣ The Legal Deep-Dive

If you need to go deeper — especially on how to interpret the Codes while state-level rules are still being finalised — this guide is excellent. Key things it covers:

  • 📌 The Codes override any existing contracts or policies that conflict with them

  • 📌 What the expanded definition of "wages" means for allowances and deductions

  • 📌 How "employee," "worker," and "employer" are now defined more broadly

  • 📌 What to do while your state's final rules are still pending

It's a thorough read — dip in and out of the sections most relevant to your role.

4️⃣ You've Got Support — Use It 💬

Seriously, ask your questions. That's what we're here for.

🙋 Drop your questions in the #general-qna-forum channel on the TSOW Slack — our leaders are ready to answer. Big questions, small questions, half-formed questions — nothing is off the table

📅 Join a TSOW meetup in April — we've got sessions planned specifically around the Labour Codes. Think less lecture, more working through it together. Details dropping soon in the channel — keep an eye out!

The Codes are live. So is the support. Let's tackle this together.
